creativity, connection & Curiosity

as a kid, I often heard I cared “too much”.

now, as a neurodivergent, nonbinary woman in theater, I believe the qualities of nurturing, sensitivity, and intuition are my secret strengths. I know discomfort to be necessary, and I embrace it armed with hospitality. in fact, I think the bravest thing we can be is “too much”.

too much

my unending love affair with the stage started at age 11, as I watched the dress rehearsal for the high school’s production of “Suessical” my sister was on the costumes crew for. one Gertrude McFuzz was singing “Notice Me, Horton”. and i loved that up there, being vulnerable was celebrated— necessary for a successful production. no one was afraid of being too much.

learning that directing was a real job people pursued came at a relief— finally, a job where i could tell other people what to do without having to do it myself! I spent my university years at the Walgreen Drama Center, the bustling hub of University of Michigan’s Theatre & Musical Theatre departments, and graduated in 2021 with my BFA in Directing Theatre.

I moved to Brooklyn the following fall, and I’ve been here ever since, doing about every job behind the table or behind the scenes in the theater, and a whole lot of other things to make ends meet. I love work where the logistical and the creative sides of ideation collide, and where nurturing and challenge go hand in hand. whether it’s coaching actors how to play, kids how to human, or dogs how to communicate, I think we’re all better off when we feed our creativity, connection, and curiosity.
